The Red Devils were without the services of top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo after his new born son passed away on Monday, as Marcus Rashford, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones all started.

However, it took Liverpool just four minutes to break the deadlock as the Reds punished United's highline as Salah was slipped down the right before picking out Luis Diaz for the close-range finish. The visitors were dealt a blow soon after as Paul Pogba sustained a calf injury and was replaced by Jesse Lingard after the ninth minute. Liverpool's lead was doubled in the 22nd minute when a superb passing move ended with Sadio Mane playing in Salah, who took one touch before slotting past David de Gea.

United, meanwhile, offered no threat going forward as they failed to register a single effort on Alisson Becker's goal through the opening 45 minutes.

Ralf Rangnick responded with a change at the start of the second half as Jadon Sancho replaced Jones, with United reverting to a back four for the second period.

Sancho managed to carve out a chance for his side on 63 minutes after playing in Rashford, who was denied by the on-rushing Becker in the box.

However, Liverpool bagged a third goal on 67 minutes as Andrew Robertson started a counter-attack and laid the ball off to Diaz who picked out Mane for the first-time finish.

With the hosts comfortably leading, Klopp opted for a couple changes in the last 15 minutes as Diogo Jota and Naby Keita replaced Diaz and Thiago Alcantara.

Salah rounded off the scoring for the home side with six minutes left on the clock as the Egyptian latched onto a pass from Jota and netted with a deflected lob over De Gea.
