Samsung extends South Korea LCD development for indefinite period
Samsung Consumer electronics said on Tuesday (Dec 29) it'll extend creation of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels for TVs and monitors, as stay-at-home styles of the coronavirus pandemic created an uptick popular.

Samsung Display's decision to extend LCD production on South Korea for an unspecified time frame overrides its announcement in March that it could end all production by the finish of the entire year to focus on more advanced technology.

Samsung Display said the length of the extension would rely upon industry conditions. It had said in past due October that it had been considering a "short-term" expansion.

Native media outlet IT Chosun reported earlier on Tuesday that production would be expanded by a year at the request of Samsung Electronic devices' arranged manufacturing division, citing unnamed tech industry sources.

A spokeswoman for Samsung Display declined to touch upon the IT Chosun statement.

The stay-at-home trend sparked by the coronavirus pandemic resulted in a 30 % quarter-on-quarter spike in global panel demand in the 3rd quarter of the entire year amid more TV and notebook demand, according to technology research firm TrendForce.

However, the firm added that the influx of extra development capacities from Chinese LCD makers was more likely to worsen a source glut next year.

Samsung had produced LCD panels found in both South Korea and China, nonetheless it earlier this season sold a majority stake found in its Suzhou LCD production unit to TCL Technology Group Corp's China Superstar Optoelectronics Technology unit.
